Fraud: Civil servant arraigned over N1m employment scam

Abdulkadir Bello, a 27-year-old civil servant in the Kaduna State Civil Service, has been arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding job seekers of N1 million.

According to the state prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, Bello, who resides at Alkali Musa Road, Rigachukun, Kaduna, was arrested after one Usman Shuaibu reported the matter at Gabasawa Police Station on October 20.

According to Leo, the complainant informed the police that Bello claimed to be an agent under the State Internal Revenue Service and convinced the complainant to give him N1 million to secure employment for him and his brother as money agents.

He further stated that after the money was paid, Bello failed to deliver on his promise as him and his brother were never given the job nor was their money returned by the defendant.

Leo disclosed that during investigation, the defendant confessed to committing the crime which contravened the Provisions of Section 138 of the Penal Code Law Kaduna State 2017 but when it was time to take his plea, the defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Benjamin Hassan admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until November 23 for hearing.
