President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met with members of the National Council of Traditional Rulers from the six geo-political zones of the country.
The monarchs were led to the parley in Abuja by the two co-chairpersons of the Council, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.
The Council of Traditional Rulers had, on Tuesday, met in Abuja to deliberate national socio-economic and security issues, with social unrest in some parts of the country arising from the #EndSARS protests topping the agenda.
The meeting with President Buhari is coming on the heels of an earlier meeting and position statement made by governors in the northern region on the fallouts of the #EndSARS protests which created a security breach across many states in the country.
The governors had, on Monday in Kaduna, expressed support for the government’s move to regulate social media to check the spread of fake news in the country in a communique issued by its chairman, governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong.
The governors also called for the reform of the police to strengthen their capacity.
