Enugu crash: Buhari tasks vehicle owners on roadworthiness

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the ghastly motor accident which occurred in Mgbowu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, in which scores of people, most of them school pupils, died.

A statement issued by his spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Friday, disclosed that Buhari condoled with families and relatives of the victims, praying that God would grant them succour and spare the country of such tragedy in future.

He also commiserated with the Catholic Church of Awgu, which is the administrator of Presentation Nursery and Primary School whose pupils died at the accident, as well as the Enugu State government.

The president enjoined vehicle owners to ensure their cars pass roadworthiness tests, as initial reports attributed the accident to brake failure by the truck involved in the crash.

21 persons reportedly died in the crash on Wednesday.
