The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions on Independence Bridge, Lagos Island, as urgent asphalt repairs are scheduled to begin on Friday night and continue through the weekend.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos on Wednesday, urging motorists to prepare for possible delays and consider alternative routes during the repair period.
Osiyemi said the repair works would cover both inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge, with traffic management measures introduced to minimise disruption to road users.
According to him, sections of the bridge will be partially closed one at a time to allow construction work while maintaining access for motorists.
“Traffic management plans to help motorists navigate their movement during the repair works include partial closure of each section at a time, with a lane opened for motorists to access their destinations,” he said.
The commissioner added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to direct traffic and ease movement around the affected area.
He advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the repair period.
“Motorists are implored to remain patient, obey traffic laws and cooperate fully with the interventions made available,” Osiyemi said.
The state government urged road users to exercise caution and make necessary adjustments to their travel plans as work continues on the bridge through Saturday and Sunday.
