As political parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 general elections, the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate seat, Dr Juliet Hassana Muoneme, has begun consultations with key stakeholders across the territory.
Muoneme, who visited the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the FCT on Saturday, formally presented her aspiration to the Igbo socio-cultural organisation and solicited its engagement as she prepares for the election.
The candidate said her ambition was driven by the desire to promote inclusive leadership, innovation and wider opportunities for residents of the FCT.
Her campaign is anchored on the theme, “Unlocking Opportunities Through Knowledge, Innovation and Inclusive Leadership.”
Speaking during the visit, Muoneme said she envisioned an FCT where residents, regardless of their backgrounds, would have access to opportunities to acquire knowledge, work, build businesses and live with dignity in a secure and inclusive environment.
She said her mission, if elected, would be to provide transparent, courageous and compassionate representation in the Senate through people-oriented legislation, strategic partnerships and accountable leadership.
According to her, her legislative agenda would prioritise policies capable of expanding economic opportunities, encouraging innovation and improving the living standards of residents across the six area councils of the FCT.
Muoneme described leadership as an avenue for service rather than an opportunity to occupy political office, saying elected representatives must focus on addressing challenges confronting the people.
“Leadership is not about occupying an office; it is about solving problems, creating opportunities and restoring hope,” she said.
She added that effective representation should create an environment where children could pursue their dreams, young people could succeed, women could thrive, entrepreneurs could grow their businesses and communities could have their voices heard.
The PRP candidate was received by the FCT leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, led by its President, Chief Andrew Ugwu.
The organisation welcomed her and acknowledged her decision to engage its leadership ahead of the election.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo also assured Muoneme of its support at the appropriate time, while commending her for reaching out to the group as part of her stakeholder engagements.
Muoneme was born in Kogi State and is married to a native of Adazi-Nnukwu in Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
She is an academic and has served as a lecturer, including at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where she taught at the postgraduate diploma level.
Her engagement with Ohanaeze Ndigbo is part of a wider consultation with stakeholders ahead of the 2027 FCT Senate election.
Through the engagements, Muoneme is seeking to build support for her political agenda centred on knowledge-driven development, innovation, inclusive governance and improved opportunities for residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
