Man, 45, docked for allegedly stealing complainant’s N2m

The police on Thursday,  dragged a 45-year-old man, Lekan Alaran before a Mapo Grade ‘A’ Customary Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing two million naira belonging to a complainant.

Alaran is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing.

He, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor,  Insp. Ayodele Ayeni told the court that the defendant committed the offence  on May 15, at about 2.00 p.m, at Oke-Itunun area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

He alleged that Alaran stole the money from a complainant, one Mrs Kemi Balogun, adding that he was eventually arrested by the police.

The offence contravenes the provision of section 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State 2000

The court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Akintayo added that the sureties must each present evidence of three years tax payment to the Oyo State government.

He added that the sureties must also be owners of a landed property with Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).

The court adjourned the case until June 24, for trial.. (NAN)
