365Daily – Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the latest killings in Plateau, Kaduna and Taraba States, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of failing in its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary (North Central), Hon. Abdulmumini Abdulsalam, the party described the renewed violence as “a tragic confirmation” that the federal government has no effective response to Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.
Gunmen had reportedly invaded the Gari Ya Waye community in the Angwan Rukuba area of Plateau State, near the University of Jos, opening fire on residents and killing about 30 people, while several others sustained injuries.
The party also referenced a deadly attack in Kahir, Kaduna State, where 13 people were reportedly killed during a wedding ceremony, as well as fresh violence in Takum, Taraba State, where a policeman, a fuel attendant and two internally displaced persons were killed while attempting to access food.
The NDC said the repeated bloodshed reflected what it called government inertia and a lack of political will to confront insecurity.
“We mourn with you, and we feel your pains. Your loss is our loss, and your grief is our grief,” Abdulsalam said.
He added that the APC had “again failed Nigerians on security,” insisting that the situation was worsening despite repeated assurances from the presidency.
“It is not enough for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to issue the familiar marching orders to security chiefs while violence continues unabated,” the statement said.
The party also faulted what it described as the “lethargy” of both federal and state authorities, noting that the affected governors are members of the ruling APC.
It further criticised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, alleging that even ongoing efforts at curbing the violence had “virtually petered out.”
“The APC government must go beyond rhetoric and optics and take concrete action to stop the mindless killing of innocent Nigerians,” the statement added.
