The Nigeria Forest Security Service is set to hold its 2025 Annual Security Summit scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 28.
According to a notice by the security outfit, which was signed by ACG Administration Akeem Oseni, the summit would host all executive officials from the national, zonal, state and local government levels.
“All the National Excos, Zonal Excos, State Excos and Local Govt Excos of the NFSS are enjoined to take note as other details of the Summit will be communicated in due course”, ACG Oseni stated.
Recall that recently President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of forest guards and commencement of their employment to secure the 1,129 forests in the country.
The president directed that the forest guards are to be well trained and armed to perform their duties, which is essentially to flush out terrorists and criminal gangs hiding inside the forests for criminal activities.
The recruitment is a security collaborative effort between the federal and state governments.
To that respect, NFSS commended President Tinubu for his decision to establish the Nigerian Forest Guards.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the NFSS headquarters in Abuja, the Commandant General of NFSS, Joshua Osatimehin, along with the Deputy Commandant General (Intelligence), Dr. John Metchie, expressed the agency’s readiness to safeguard Nigeria’s forests.
“We are fully committed to securing Nigeria’s forests and will not relent in our efforts to support other security agencies in achieving this objective,” said CG Osatimehin.
Meanwhile, some security experts in the country have argued that instead of establishing a new outfit, which will require rigorous process including time wastage, NFSS stands the best chance to be coopted by the Federal Government of Nigeria since the job conforms with the ideals of NFSS.
