Benue athletes at the ongoing National Sports Festival, NSF, Holden at Abiokuta, Ogun State have continued to put up impressive performance by winning more medals to make the state proud.
The latest medal coming from a 22-year- old, George Iniobong who on Sunday competing in the 60kg men’s judo defeated his opponent from six other states but was overpowered by competitor of the host state Ogun which made him settle for silver.
Answering questions from journalists after his encounter, the silver medalist Iniobong, expressed dissatisfaction with the medal but thanked God for assisting him register his name on the medal list.
He commended the Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia for making it possible for him and other athletes to participate in the Gate Way Games but blamed performance on poor preparation.
The athlete who promised to improve on his performance in future competitions appreciated the governor, Commissioner for youth, sports, culture and creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, coaches and his family for the support which brought him this far.
Relatedly, Ukpe Augustina I’m, also won a+70kg Bronze medal for team Benue in kickboxing, increasing the state medal table.
