365Daily – The daughter of former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, Eriethake Ibori-Suenu, ,and four other members of the Labour Party have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ibori-Suenu, who represents Ethiope Federal Constituency, was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Other defectors from the Labour Party include Okere Tochukwu from Imo, Donatus Mathew (the former commercial motorcycle rider) from Kaduna, Bassey Akiba from Cross River, and Iyawe Esosa from Edo.
The defectors, while making the announcement on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the National Assembly, cited internal divisions within their parties as the reason for their defection.
In their letter read on the floor of the House during plenary, they attributed their move to the crises in both the Labour Party and the PDP.
Senators Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Ede Dafinone (Delta), Thomas Joel-Onowakpo (Delta), and Asuquo Ekpenyong (Cross River) were present during the announcement.
However, the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Ali Isa, asked the Speaker of the House to declare the seats of the five lawmakers vacant in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.
On his part, the Deputy Minority Whip, George Ozodinoni, denied any crisis within the Labour Party, asserting that those claiming otherwise were attempting to tarnish the party’s reputation.
