Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, James Iorpuu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Hyacinth Alia administration to carry along all citizens in the scheme of things including providing succor to the most vulnerable as well as other people-oriented programmes for the general wellbeing of the masses.
Speaking, weekend, at the flag off of distribution of palliatives to 2024 flood victims of six communities of Achusa, Gyado Villa, Logo2, Wadata, Modern Market and the Central Area of High Level all in Makurdi LGA, held at the premises of Sevior Model College Makurdi, Iorpuu said the programme was put together at the instance of Governor Hyacinth Alia, in his resolve to demonstrate love and willingness at all times to reach out to the general masses.
He said during the raining season SEMA discovered that many people were affected by flood and against this background carried out assessment of those who were affected and forwarded a report to the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA for intervention.
Iorpuu further explained that while SEMA was still waiting for the federal government, Governor Alia, out of his magnanimity decided to provide palliatives as the state’s contribution to the victims to cushion the effect of hunger on people affected, explaining that the palliatives were not meant for the general public but only those who were affected by 2024 flood disaster.
