Alia unveils Benue Multisectoral Needs Assessment Report to tackle humanitarian crisis

Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has launched the Benue State Multisectoral Needs Assessment, MSNA, Report, a groundbreaking move to address the state’s urgent humanitarian needs.

Alia who was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Sam Ode, said the unveiling would mark a pivotal step in Benue’s humanitarian strategy, aimed at providing a comprehensive roadmap to tackle critical issues such as
food security- to enhancing food distribution to vulnerable communities, healthcare to improving access to healthcare services, particularly in displaced communities.

To improved water and sanitation to prevent outbreaks of diseases, increase access to education for particularly the displaced and affected communities and protection services aimed at bolstering protection services for vulnerable populations.

Governor Alia expressed optimism that the report will guide immediate and long-term humanitarian interventions, envisioning a Benue where every citizen has access to essential resources and opportunities.

Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Aondowase Kunde, described the report as a “living document” that will evolve with the state’s dynamic humanitarian landscape.

Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Yanmar Ortese highlighted the state’s proactive approach to closing healthcare gaps in vulnerable communities.

Benson Madubuko, MEAL Coordinator for Save the Children, emphasized the pressing needs across Benue State, citing 63% of households facing food insecurity and 40% experiencing displacement due to communal conflicts and floods.

He advocated for coordinated, multi-agency responses to support vulnerable populations.

The event brought together members of the Civil Society Organization group, UNHCR, Plan International, and the International Federation for Women Lawyers, FIDA.
