365Daily – The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has announced the immediate suspension of exportation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in a bid to curb the rising cost of cooking gas in the country.
He made the disclosure on Thursday, February 22, 2024, during an Internal Stakeholders’ Workshop in Abuja.
Commonly known as cooking gas, the price per kilogramme of the product rose to N1,400 this week.
The minister said the move was part of efforts to boost the availability of LPG within the domestic market, and to alleviate the financial burden on consumers due to surging prices.
He added that in order to ensure a more stable and affordable cooking gas market, the ministry is collaborating with critical stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Mobil, Chevron and Shell to collectively address challenges faced by consumers.
“There is that hope that things will turn around. We don’t need to make noise about it,” the Minister affirmed.
