The Nigeria Labour Congress, women committee under the leadership of Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Ribah on Wednesday visited some selected schools in Kebbi state to distribute books to pupils and students in two public schools.
The donation which was done under girl-child education aimed to boost the morale of students and pupils in the two public schools of Goru and Abdullahi Fodio Islamic Institute in Birnin Kebbi where NLC inscribed books, pencils and pens were distributed to pupils while sanitary items such as toilet rolls and sanitizers were given to SS3 students of Abdullahi Fodio Islamic Institute.
Speaking shortly, the state chairperson, Nigeria Labour Congress Women Committee, Hadiza Ribah said that they took the tasks to complement what the wife Kebbi governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Idris, is doing in encouraging girls-child education hence the reason to assist in their own little way.
“This is little we can do for our female students to encourage them read and to support the governor’s wife Nasare”, she added.
Responding on behalf of Goru Primary School, a teacher, Aisha Shehu, said the gesture is encouraging not only to the students, but teachers too therefore thanked the NLC women committee for their assistance and the governor’s wife for undertaking the girls-child project.
Earlier, the principal of Abdullahi Fodio Islamic Institute, Hajiya Aisha Bello Diggi, prayed to almighty Allah to reward them for reaching out to them saying recently the wife of the governor assisted the school.
“We are grateful for the visit and the donation and I will ensure judicious use of the items”, she said.
