365Daily – The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has scheduled the arraignment of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
Kanu is facing amended terrorism charges before the Justice Binta Nyako court.
He was due to be arraigned on Tuesday, January 18, 2021, but it had to be moved followimg an appeal by his lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), for time to enable him study the amended 15-count charge filed by the prosecution on January 17, 2022.
Ozekhome, who appeared in defence of the accused on Tuesday, argued that his team was ambushed with the fresh charge by the prosecution.
According to him, the proof of evidence served on the defence by the prosecution was not legible enough to enable them know what constitutes the fresh charge, hence the request forore time.
Although the lead prosecuting lawyer, Magaji Labaran, faulted the defence’s claim that the amended charge was an ambush, he did not object to the defence’s request for and adjournment.
