365Daily – An ex-Commissioner of Information in Edo State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Kassim Afegbua, has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC), on allegations of corruption against the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
Afegbua’s petition sought the EFCC to investigate how the N10 billion the party allegedly generated between 2017 and 2019, especially from sales of nomination forms for Presidential, Gubernatorial, House of Assembly and Senatorial elections, was utilised.
While urging the anti-graft agencies to give expedited attention to his petition, he said failure to do so would mean resorting to seeking legal redress in the law court.
Presenting the petition at the EFCC office on Monday, April 26, 2021, the ex-Commissioner accused the leadership of the party of trying to shortchange the party ahead of the 2023 elections.
He accused the Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, of keeping its financial transactions in secret and leaving his responsibility of strengthening the party to play its formidable role as a virile opposition party undone.
Afegbua further alleged Secondus of using Morufu Nigeria Limited for financial transactions of the party instead of the party’s bank account.
The company, according to him, was allegedly a conduit pipe for diversion of funds accrued from the sales of forms in 2019.
