365Daily – Nigeria’s Super Falcons’ bid for a record-extending 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title has suffered a major setback after Cameroon edged them 1-0 in the quarter-finals of the 2026 tournament in Morocco on Sunday.
Maeva Nyadjou’s early free-kick proved decisive at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, as the Indomitable Lionesses held off a spirited Nigerian fightback to book their place in the semi-finals.
The victory was only Cameroon’s second against Nigeria in 40 meetings, making the result a notable upset in the history of the rivalry.
The Super Falcons responded immediately after going behind, piling pressure on the Cameroonians and creating several opportunities in search of an equaliser.
However, Cameroon’s goalkeeper and defence stood firm, frustrating Nigeria’s attacking efforts and maintaining their organisation and discipline until the final whistle.
The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of retaining the WAFCON title but does not end their hopes of reaching the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons will now turn their attention to the inter-confederation playoffs, where they will face South Africa on Thursday for a chance to secure a place at the global showpiece.
Cameroon will face hosts Morocco in the WAFCON semi-finals on Wednesday, with a place in the final at stake.
