365Daily – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said his political priority ahead of the 2027 elections is to help President Bola Tinubu secure a convincing victory in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, dismissing speculation that he is seeking a top position in the President’s campaign organisation.
Wike, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said he was neither interested in nor lobbying for the position of Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
His reaction came against the backdrop of reports suggesting that some senior APC figures and members of the Federal Government were positioning themselves for key roles in the party’s campaign structure for the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said he had not discussed the leadership or composition of the proposed council with anyone, stressing that his current responsibility was to deliver on his mandate as FCT Minister and support the Tinubu administration.
The former Rivers governor, who is currently outside the country, said the break followed an intense period of work in the nation’s capital, during which he spent more than 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new ones and inspecting ongoing projects.
He said he would resume full engagement with FCT development and the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda upon his return.
Wike also made clear that his political support for Tinubu would not be tied to any appointment within the campaign organisation.
He said he could play a significant role in the President’s re-election effort without occupying a formal campaign position.
“Therefore, I do not need to be the DG or even member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” he said.
The Minister further stated that his immediate focus would remain on strengthening the President’s electoral prospects in the two territories while continuing to deliver on his responsibilities in the FCT.
