..seeks stronger protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity

365Daily – The House of Representatives has condemned the reported incursion of armed Cameroonian soldiers into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, describing any unauthorised entry into Nigerian territory as a matter of national concern requiring urgent government attention.
During plenary on Thursday, lawmakers considered a motion on the border incident and expressed concern over its implications for Nigeria’s territorial integrity, the safety of border communities, and the country’s diplomatic relations with neighbouring Cameroon.
While stressing the need for proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences and ensure the protection of Nigeria’s internationally recognised boundaries, the House urged the Federal Government to intensify diplomatic engagement with the Republic of Cameroon towards the permanent demarcation of the Nigeria Cameroon border in accordance with existing international agreements.
The resolutions followed reports of the recent incursion into Danare, an incident that prompted a response from the Nigerian Army, which confirmed that its troops intervened promptly and engaged the appropriate Cameroonian military authorities, leading to the withdrawal of the foreign troops in line with established border protocols
Lawmakers also called for strengthened security presence in affected border communities, including the establishment of a permanent Forward Operating Base in Danare to enhance surveillance and provide rapid security response.
The House also noted that protecting Nigeria’s land borders remains a critical component of national security and emphasised the need for sustained collaboration among the Armed Forces, other security agencies, and relevant government institutions to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and protect residents living in border areas.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to supporting legislative and oversight measures aimed at strengthening border security, promoting peaceful relations with neighbouring countries, and ensuring that the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is protected at all times.
