The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Governor Douye Diri to provide inclusive leadership by placing the interests of Bayelsans above political considerations and focusing on policies and programmes that will drive sustainable development, economic growth, and improve the welfare of the people.
Speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, the State Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Dauprebo Ikuromo, urged the Bayelsa State Government to refrain from attempting to induce NDC aspirants with financial incentives aimed at creating divisions within the party.
According to Ikuromo, no amount of inducement can distract the NDC from its goal of taking over the leadership of the state. He advised that such resources should instead be directed toward addressing the state’s pressing developmental challenges, including the issue of the commissioned but non-functional gas turbines.
Addressing concerns over reported grievances within the party, the NDC, the Chairman stated that the party has established a robust grievance redress mechanism under the leadership of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, adding that the party’s National Executive Council will publish the list of candidates for various positions within the timeline stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ikuromo also praised the National Leader of the NDC, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, for his conduct during the party’s primary elections.
He described Dickson’s leadership as exemplary, noting that he successfully oversaw the primary election process across the country with fairness, tact, and wisdom, ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants.
The Bayelsa NDC further applauded Senator Dickson’s commitment to the inclusion of youths and women in the party’s primaries, describing the move as consistent with the principles of affirmative action and broader political participation. According to the party Chairman, such policies were essential for building a strong and inclusive political movement.
The NDC chairman however called on party members and supporters across Bayelsa State to remain united and focused on the party’s objective of taking over governance from what he described as a ruling party that has failed the nation.
