The Labour Party, FCT chapter, on Monday, opened a new secretariat in Abuja. The office is located beside the national headquarters of Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, Gudu District, Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Honourable Chinedu Obika, applauded the state chairman of the party, Comrade Peter Diugwu and his executive members for the giant step they took in securing the office.
Speaking on the current leadership crisis in the party, the federal lawmaker said it is normal for disagreement to come, because it shows that the Labour Party is intact. He said the national chairman of the party, Barrister Julius Abure, was there for the party, and therefore deserves to reap the ‘fruit of his labour’.
“Don’t be deceived; Labour Party is intact, and we are looking forward to possessing more possessions in the land of Abuja. If there are no issues in the party, what it entails is that we are not doing well.
“When a party is growing, there must be problems, there must be struggles; people would want to hold positions, people would want to relieve others of their own”.
Hon Obika pledged a bus for the party as well as providing chairs and other logistics to make the office comfortable.
He advised Labour Party leadership in the state to fortify their chapter structure, because that is where the voters are.
According to him, a chapter comprises 100 registered members of the party within a polling unit.
Obika said the target of the party in Abuja is to win area council seats in the next elections, and warned that for no reason should the tenure of the serving chairmen and councilors be extended.
