PEP4NW, Lagos State chapter flags off “Be Self Reliant” Programme

Progressive Empowerment Project (PEP4NW), Lagos State Chapter held the first in the series of the group’s scheduled skills acquisition training and empowerment programme on Tuesday the 20th of February at A42 Lounge, Abule Egba, Lagos.

Enthusiastic and committed members of PEP4NW from different local government and LCDAs in the state defied the early morning rain and turned up for the training programme under the theme: BE SELF RELIANT, which was anchored by Comrade Folake Jenrola, CEO, Fanibella Enterprises; Comrade Folasade Olukoya, a scientist and Barrister Grace Salako-Adigwe, the Co-Ordinator, PEP4NW, Alimosho Local Government who gave a talk on empowerment of the Nigerian woman within the framework of law.

In the words of the Lagos State Co-Ordinator of PEP4W, Comrade Olajumoke Omolola; “Our Skills Acquisition and Empowerment programme succinctly named Be Self Reliant, is our direct response to the rising cases of unemployment particularly amongst women in the bracket of our vulnerable population.

“Members of our group have waited for so long for government intervention and we felt it was high time we roll off the first in the series of our scheduled quarterly skills acquisition to provide a meal ticket for targeted beneficiaries in the hope that government will one day look in our direction and support the laudable cause which for all intent and purposes is our humble contribution to the arduous task of expanding the frontiers of employment and empowerment.”

Four products – Disinfectant, Cold Water Starch, Bleach and Liquid Soap – were produced at the training session all of which were branded in the name and colours of PEP4NW.

Launching of the products would be an item on the programme of activities lined up at the inauguration of PEP4NW Lagos State Chapter scheduled to hold on Saturday 24th of February, 2024.

A purpose-driven programme, the skills acquisition training and empowerment initiative was designed to raise the stakes in the group’s collective determination to put a smile on the faces of members who hitherto are not known to have any means of livelihood. “Our exco members have had to levy ourselves to raise requisite funds to organise the skills acquisition in different fields encompassing ICT, shoemaking, bead making, photography, perfumes & body spray, fashion design, tie & dye, and our plan is to make it a quarterly event to be taken to different local government areas in Lagos State.

With the first hurdled crossed in PEP4NW’s determination to deepen empowerment amongst targeted beneficiaries, the Lagos State Chapter is set to further broaden the frontiers of employment and empowerment in the society.

“We have crossed the line of empowerment promises,” says the Co-ordinator, “to the point of delivering free skills acquisition training of our members. It is a one-step at a time journey”
