365Daily – ‘Heart of Darkness’, title of a novella by Polish-English novelist Joseph Conrad, sadly captures the recent horrendous killing of a foreign-based hotelier and his young employee in Ogbomosho, Osun State.

A Facebook user, Bukoladeremi Ladigbolu,
posted the sad story that apparently depicted the bewildering wickedness of man, that claimed the life of a young female university student, who took up a job in a hotel in Ogbomosho, as a result of the intractable Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike that led to the shutting down of public universities in Nigeria in the past four months.

The young girl, only identified as Rachel, a final year student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) before the ugly incident, was kidnapped with his employer, Mr Olugbenga Owolabi, who only visited Nigeria from his overseas base, but were heinously murdered by their captors, in spite of the fact that a ransom had been paid to effect their release.

The post by Bukoladeremi Ladigbolu read: “Pathetic killings broke my heart into shreds and the tears flowed freely .

“Rachel a final year student of LAUTECH chose to work in a hotel in Ogbomoso due to ASUU strike, fortunately and unfortunately she got a job in the hotel of Mr Olugbenga Owolabi who was living abroad but thought it wise to create job in Ogbomoso and take hospitality to a refined level.

“Unfortunately Mr Owolabi was kidnapped the day he got to Nigeria.
N5 million ransom was paid for Mr Owolabi & Rachael but yet they were shot and killed, the bike man who went with the person who took the ransom died too.
What a wicked world !
Comfort for your families.”
