BREAKING: CJN Tanko resigns on health grounds amidst corruption allegations

365Daily – The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, has resigned from his position, reportedly on health grounds.

The CJN’s Special Assistant on Media, Mr Isah Ahuraka confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

His resignation comes amidst allegations of corruption levelled against him by Justices of the Supreme Court by 14 Justices of the Supreme Court.

He was accused of withholding their benefits while his family benefits from perks of office, including going on overseas trips on the bill of the court.

The next most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, is expected to be sworn in as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria soon, though no formal announcement has been made.

Other issues issues raised against the outgone CJN  include the failure to replace dilapidated vehicles, accommodation problems, poor healthcare services at the Supreme Court clinic, lack of inyernet services and poor electricity supply.
