365Daily – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured its members of an amicable resolution of the crisis threatening the party.
365Daily on Tuesday reported that seven members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resigned from their positions.
The officials resigned in separate letters to the National Secretary of the party, Umar Tsauri, on Monday, August 2, 2021.
Those who resigned are the Deputy National Financial Secretary, Gerald Irona; Deputy National Organising Secretary, Hassan Yakubu; Deputy National Legal Adviser, Ahmed Liman, and Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi.
Others are the Deputy National Woman Leader, Hadizat Umoru; Deputy National Auditor, Divine Arong, and another official who could not be identified at the time of this report.
In a statement on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said it has activated an internal conflict resolution mechanism after a review of the existing state with a view to working out a framework for resolving the situation.
It urged its members to remain as it is stable and united and working to “dislodge the brutally ineffective All Progressives Congress (APC) come 2023.”
The statement reads, “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rose from a crucial meeting on Tuesday evening where it reviewed the state of the party, with a view to creating an atmosphere that will continue to engender stability within the party.
“The NWC assures that it has already activated the internal conflict resolution mechanism of the party to ensure amicable resolution of all issues.
“The NWC further assures all members of the party that it is taking urgent steps to ensure decisions that will strengthen our great party for the task ahead, particularly at this time Nigerians are looking up to the PDP for direction and solutions.
“Against this backdrop, the NWC urges all members to remain calm while assuring that the PDP remains stable as we work with majority of Nigerians to end the inept administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), come 2023.”
The latest crisis is coming after several accusations of gross incompetence and corruption against the NWC by a Chieftain of the party, Kassim Afegbua, and the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesome Wike.
