The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on Wednesday announced a “conditional” suspension of its 9 months strike from 24th December, 2020.
The union went on strike in March 2020.
National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja.
Ogunyemi said the industrial action was called off sequel to an agreement reached with the Federal Government and after a meeting with its National Executive Council (NEC).
He, however, warned that the union would return to the strike without notice if the government failed to honour its part of the agreement reached with the university lecturers.
Ogunyemi noted that the reopening of the schools depends on the decision of the Federal Government and Senate of the universities, and thanked students and parents for their understanding throughout the nine-month period.
“No amount of sacrifice would be too much to get the matter resolved as long as the government is consistent with its commitments,” he stated.
Commenting on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) tussle, the Prof. disclosed that both parties settled for the University Transparency Account System (UTAS).
He also added that their salary arrears will be paid by the government via a different platform.
