Lagos/ Ibadan Rail will be ready before Christmas – NRC

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has assured Nigerians that the Lagos-Ibadan railway line will be operational before the yuletide, three months ahead of its projected take off deadline.

The Ibadan District manager of the NRC, Jerry Oche, disclosed this on Thursday, adding that the track was ready, while the station building was undergoing construction by a Chinese company, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC.

The managing director of the corporation, Fidet Okhiria, had on August 15, in Ibadan, during an inspection tour of the project by the minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and his Information and Culture counterpart, Lai Mohammed, said that operations would start by September but the date could not be kept due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

However, the Ibadan District manager assured that all was being done to ensure that operation commences before the festive period.

He explained that finishing touches were being carried out, particularly, the overpasses which must be put in place before the rail starts operation fully.
