Rev.Fr. Titus Armon, an assistant Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Parish, Abuochiche, Bekwarra council area of Cross River State, who was allegedly taken by men dressed in military uniform on the eve of Thursday 29, 2020, has been released.
There was controversy surrounding his abduction as 365Daily gathered from an indigene of the state that the priest is being held in the place of his twin brother – also a priest – over the latter’s role in the #EndSARS protests that rocked the nation, while another source claimed that Fr. Armon was only invited by security agents for questioning because of fraudulent transactions found on a phone which he lost in 2019.
Fiery priests, the Armon brothers hail from Abi local government area of the state.While Titus is serving in Abuochiche, headquarters of Bekwarra local government, his twin brother is said to be serving in an undisclosed Catholic parish in Anambra State.
His twin was said to have not only actively participated in the #EndSARS protest, but was also provided food and drinks for the protesters.
The uniformed men who arrested Titus had reportedly stormed their family home in Abi in search of the twin brother but when they could not find him, they proceeded to Abuochiche to arrest Titus in his stead.
After initial denials by an aide of the state governor, Professor Ben Ayade, that the governor was not complicit in the controversial arrest of the Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Titus was released on Friday evening.
