365Daily – House of Representatives member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, has delivered victory for the Labour Party in his hometown, Obeagwe, despite the party’s overall disappointing performance in Saturday’s governorship election.
Hon. Ogene, who voted at Polling Unit 007, Ihuani, Obeagwe, led his party to victory with 47 votes, ahead of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which scored 25 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) came third with 14 votes.
At the community’s primary school polling unit, the Labour Party also triumphed, polling 41 votes, with APGA trailing at 28 votes and APC recording nine votes. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) made a surprising mark in the area, securing 25 votes overall in the community.
Despite Labour Party’s weak showing across the state, Ogene’s victory in his community is being seen as a testament to his grassroots strength and personal influence within Ogbaru.
Speaking after casting his ballot, Hon. Ogene commended the peaceful conduct of the election and expressed confidence that the outcome would reflect the will of the people.
“Equity does not favour the indolent,” he said. “In the run-up to November 8, the people of Anambra State saw the robust campaign mounted by the Governor Charles Soludo-led All Progressives Grand Alliance, as against the sloppy challenge offered by opposing candidates.”
He, however, noted that while Governor Soludo may not enjoy widespread affection among Anambra residents due to his “hard mien and some unpopular decisions,” he was nonetheless “the most prepared for last Saturday’s gubernatorial election.”
