365Daily – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, July 29, formally recognised Chief Edozie Njoku as the authentic National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at its stakeholders meeting, thereby resolving the longstanding controversy over the party’s leadership.
A viral video on social media showed INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, warmly welcoming Chief Njoku, who then sat alongside him in the meeting room, which also included Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). However, Barrister Julius Abure, Chairman of the Labour Party, was notably absent from the meeting, allegedly barred from participating in the discussions with INEC officials.
The prolonged political dispute over the national chairmanship of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has finally been resolved, bringing an end to a five-year legal battle. The party was embroiled in a bitter struggle between two claimants to the chairmanship position: Chief Edozie Njoku, who emerged from the May 31, 2019, Owerri Convention, and Chief Victor Oye, who conducted a parallel convention at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, Anambra State.
Although Oye’s faction provided the platform for Governor Charles Soludo’s successful 2021 Anambra State governorship election bid, Chief Njoku remained resolute in his pursuit of justice, seeking to reclaim his mandate through the courts. Ultimately, on July 9, 2024, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally recognized Chief Edozie Njoku as the authentic National Chairman of APGA. This recognition has led to the restoration of the Chief Njoku-led National Working Committee to their rightful offices, with their names now prominently displayed on INEC’s official website.
