Suspected gunmen late Wednesday night assassinated a legislative aide in Ebonyi House of Assembly, Mr Kingsley Obasi.
Until his death, the deceased was the legislative assistant to the deputy speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Obasi Odefa.
365Daily learnt that the gunmen trailed Obasi while he was on his way home before killing him.
His colleague, Kingsley Ikoro, confirmed the incident on his Facebook wall on Wednesday night.
“My colleague at Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Kingsley Obasi, who happens to be a Legislative Aide to The Deputy Speaker shot dead today by unknown men,” he wrote.
It was further gathered his killers also made away with his bag containing money, his wedding invitation cards and other valuables.
A member of the deceased’s family who spoke with a national daily on Thursday morning confirmed the death, described it as a robbery gone bad.
The family source, who pleaded for anonymity said, “Yes, he was the one. I don’t think it was politically motivated. I think it was a case of robbery gone bad.
“As the robbers were about to move, he was said to be shouting, ‘It is armed robbers o, it is armed robbers ooo’, then they shot him.”
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.
She said the Police Command is investigating the incident to ensure that the culprits are arrested and brought to justice.
