The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) into a leading institution for specialised military education, research and civilian capacity development.
The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, gave the assurance while receiving members of the university’s Governing Council in Abuja.
His remarks were contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde.
Musa said the Federal Government would continue to provide strategic support to the institution, describing NAUB as a vital platform for equipping military personnel and civilians with the technical and operational expertise required to address Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
He noted that the Ministry of Defence would work closely with the Armed Forces of Nigeria to maximise the 30 per cent admission quota reserved for military personnel, with the aim of bridging critical skills gaps across the country’s security architecture.
“As the Federal Government pursues the development of a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff and the general public to take advantage of the cutting-edge technological and academic opportunities available at NAUB,” the minister said.
A major outcome of the meeting, according to the statement, was a joint commitment by the Ministry of Defence and the university’s Governing Council to urgently address critical infrastructure needs on the campus.
Prominent among the planned projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management, which is expected to be the first of its kind in Africa.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of the university, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, commended Musa for his visionary leadership and strategic direction, describing his contributions as instrumental to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
Buratai expressed appreciation for the minister’s unwavering commitment to the Armed Forces and national development, while reaffirming the university’s dedication to academic excellence, innovative research and the production of highly skilled manpower in support of national security and development.
He assured the minister of the Governing Council’s continued resolve to position the Nigerian Army University Biu as a centre of excellence in military education and technological innovation.
