The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) have moved to deepen their operational partnership to ensure a more reliable and secure national electricity grid.
The commitment was solidified during a recent strategic courtesy visit by the Managing Director of NISO, Engr. Abdu Muhammed Bello, to the TCN Regional Office in Kano. Both agencies emphasized that seamless collaboration is vital to achieving the broader objectives of Nigeria’s ongoing electricity market reforms.
A central highlight of the engagement was the formal handover of the former TCN Regional Office to NISO. Leadership from both organizations characterized the transition as a major milestone reflecting the mutual trust and healthy working relationship between the two power sector entities.
The move is expected to enhance localized coordination by more effectively merging system operations and transmission infrastructure management to prevent grid instability.
Engr. M. K. Bello, TCN’s General Manager for the Transmission Kano Region, highly praised NISO’s leadership for its consistent responsiveness. He noted that NISO has repeatedly provided prompt operational backing whenever TCN required intervention, proving its reliability as a core partner.
In return, Engr. M. K. Bello pledged that the Kano Region remains fully prepared to sustain this alliance and offer the necessary field support required to make sector reforms successful.
NISO Managing Director, Engr. A. M. Bello, reiterated that a unified front between the operator and transmission teams is non-negotiable for national energy security. He stressed that ongoing technical cooperation is the baseline requirement for elevating power system operations and improving nationwide service delivery.
