365Daily – The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has appointed Hon. Afam Victor Ogene as its new spokesperson, a move aimed at strengthening the caucus’ communication and engagement with Nigerians on legislative and national issues.
The appointment was approved during an online meeting of the caucus held on Friday, June 19, 2026, according to a statement signed by the Minority Leader, Fredrick Agbedi.
Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, who currently serves as the Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in the House, represents Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State.
The caucus described Ogene as a ranking legislator and experienced parliamentarian with extensive knowledge of legislative processes and parliamentary procedures.
According to the statement, his appointment is expected to enhance the caucus’ public engagement and strengthen its role in promoting accountability and democratic governance within the National Assembly.
As spokesperson, Ogene will be responsible for articulating the positions of the Minority Caucus on national matters, communicating its activities and perspectives to the public, and advancing its oversight responsibilities over the Executive arm of government.
The caucus noted that Ogene’s background as an award-winning journalist and editor would be an added advantage in effectively conveying its views and reinforcing the principles of checks and balances in the 10th National Assembly.
It also called on members of the media and the general public to support the new spokesperson in the discharge of his duties.
The Minority Caucus expressed confidence that Ogene’s appointment would further strengthen its constitutional mandate and deepen engagement between the legislature and the Nigerian people.
