The Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo in the Federal Capital has launched a cooperative society for the empowerment of Igbo people living within the nation’s capital and its environs.
The Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo FCT Abuja Cooperative Society Limited was registered on January 9, 2024 under the CAP NO. 98 of the Nigerian Co-operative Societies ACT/2004 but began operation with the inauguration of a management team that was inaugurated to ensure its day-to-day running.
Speaking to our correspondent, last weekend, in Abuja, president of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo FCT Abuja Chapter, Barrister Ifeanyichukwu Obasi-Nweze, “We formed a cooperative society for the cooperation of Nd’Igbo, we want to empower people financially; help people to grow in their businesses.
“We do not encourage laziness, so those who have their own calling or trade are the people that we want to encourage with the cooperative, so that they can get money, and as well be able to save within the cooperative.
“It won’t be every time sharing money for people to only eat food, people can save money so that by the end of the year they would know that there is something they would gain from the leadership of Igbo people.
“We selected people that have integrity to manage this business, because this is cooperation for economic growth. The summary is that it is the cooperation of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo members for economic growth”, he revealed.
He encouraged members to invest in their cooperative in order to make it viable.
On the death of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, former minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Barrister Obasi Nweze said what Nigeria can do in memory of Onu is to emulate his transparent politics, his straightforward politics, which is part of what he was known for.
