Govt to establish military base in Kwande prevent attacks on farmers

He directed the commissioner of police to back up the police station in Jato-aka with at least 50 more police personnel to respond swiftly to security challenges around the affected communities

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has revealed that government has approved a permanent military base to be established in Kwande Local Government Area of the state to prevent further attacks on farmers.

He assured the people that his administration would not fold arms and watch bandits continue to kill, destroy and take over ancestral homes of the people.

Governor Alia who gave the assurance when he addressed thousands of Internally Displaced Person’s, IDPs, from six council wards of Moon, Mbadura, Yaav, Kumakwagh, Mbakyor and Liev-1 at Achia primary health care centre, Ikyurav- ya to carryout on the spot assessment of recent attacks and killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen, told the people that worried by the killings, government has approved a permanent military base to be established in the area to prevent further attacks on farmers.

The governor represented on the visit by his deputy, Sam Ode, in company of Secretary to the State Government, SSG Professor Joseph Alakali and the Executive Secretary BSEMA James Iorpuu, explained that the presence of the military and other security agencies will check bandits attacks on Anyiase, Abande and Nundugh, the communities that are most badly hit.

He directed the commissioner of police to back up the police station in Jato-aka with at least 50 more police personnel to respond swiftly to security challenges around the affected communities, assuring that government would continue to support the displaced communities to dislodge the criminal elements that are coming to disturb the peace of the people.

In separate remarks, Secretary to the State Government, SSG professor Joseph Alakali and Chairman of Kwande, Father Mark Hule, all informed the people that the governor has not abandoned them.
