365Daily – The power tussle in Rivers State continued on Tuesday as factional Speakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, battled over the leadership of the state legislature.
On October 30, 2023, the Assembly was split into two factions following an attempt to impeach Gov. Fubara on the behest of his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The governor had told journalists days after the incident that President Bola Tinubu had intervened in the matter.
However, all is not yet well as Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, who was elected as Speaker when the 10th House of Assembly convened months ago, leading lawmakers who are loyal to Wike, and the suspended leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, who was elected Speaker by lawmakers loyal to Governor Fubara on October 30, said they held seperate plenary on Tuesday to deliberate on important issues of state.
