365Daily – An Appeal Court sitting in Abuja will tomorrow deliver judgement on the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) against the verdict of the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, as the rightful winner of the March 18 governorship election in the State.
On September 20, a three-man panel of judges led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay sacked Yusuf after declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid.
They held that the ballot papers “were not signed or stamped by INEC”, thereby making them inadmissible as votes.
In reaction, Yusuf described the tribunal’s verdict as “unfair” and “a miscarriage of justice,” and proceeded to appeal the judgment.
Parties in the suit include Governor Yusuf, his party, NNPP, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Just as it was during the tribunal verdict, the Kano State Police Command has tightened security in the state.
More personnel have been deployed to strategic places in the metropolis to forestall possible unrest by supporters of either candidate.
