Court sentences mechanic to 6 in months jail for breach of trust, cheating

The judge said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to others who would want to engage in life of crime

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, on Monday, sentenced a 35-year-old mechanic, Abdullahi Sani, to six months imprisonment for breach of trust and cheating.

The judge, Muhammed Wakili, summarily sentenced Sani after he pleaded guilty to charges preferred against him.

Wakili, however, gave the convict an option of payment of N10,000 fine or spend six months in jail.

The judge also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N120, 000 to the complainant, Aminu Lamba.

The judge said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to others who would want to engage in life of crime.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that the case was reported at the Utako Police Station by the Lamba on July 10.

The prosecutor said that the complainant sometime in May 2022 gave the convict his CG motorcycle to repair for him.

He added that the complainant also paid the convict N5,000 for the repair.

The prosecutor further submitted that instead of the repair, the convict sold the said motorcycle for the sum of N120,000 and converted the money to his personal use.

He said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and all effort to recover the said motorcycle proved abortive.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravened the provision of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
