365Daily – Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of micro-blogging site, Twitter, has announced the introduction of reading limits on posts to address “extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation on the social media platform.”

He explained that verified accounts are limited to reading 6,000 posts per day, unverified accounts are restricted to 600 posts per day, while new unverified accounts are limited to 300 per day.

The announcement was received by Twitter users with displeasure as attempts to go beyond the limit was met with a message that stated: read: ‘Rate limit exceeded. Please wait a few moments then try again’.

The tweeps lamented that it would affect some of them who rely on Twitter posts for latest information or as part of their job.

Reacting to this, Elon Musk explained that the decision was to address levels of data scraping and system manipulation.

He tweeted: “To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits: – Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day – Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day – New unverified accounts to 300/day.”

However, he assured that the rate limit will soon increase.

He tweeted: “Rate limits increasing soon to 8,000 for verified, 800 for unverified & 400 for new unverified.”
