365Daily – The Department of State Services (DSS) has notified the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of the arrest of Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential adviser, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
This was disclosed by the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement issued on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
Uwujaren said the Service acted on a Watch-list request issued on July 18, 2016, over six years before his recent conviction on money laundering charges by the Federal High Court, Abuja.
He, however, added that the Commission was in the process of formally lifting the watch-list before his interception by the DSS.
The Spokesman further said the EFCC “will expedite action in this regard.”
Okupe was arrested in the early hours of Thursday while allegedly on his way to the United Kingdom.

Justice Ojukwu held that the action of Okupe, who is the first defendant in the suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), violated the Money Laundering Act.
