365Daily – The Lagos State Government has banned all forms of street trading along Alaba International Market, Ojo, aftermath of the violent class between suspected ‘Area Boys’ and traders at the market, a week ago.
The decision was taken at a stakeholders meeting convened by Hon. Comrade Chinedu Ukatu, member, Lagos State Market Advisory Council on Monday, 24th of October 2022 to address and seek a peaceful and enduring solution to the recent crisis rocked the market.
In a memorandum of understanding signed by Alaba International Market Traders Association and Lagos State Parks Administration, some resolutions were reached for harmonious existence.
According to the memorandum of understanding obtained by 365Daily in Abuja, street trading is abolished along the road at Alaba International Market; collection of money by members of Lagos State Parks Management Committee will be harmonized by the Lagos State Government and Ojo Local Government Council.
The meeting agreed that only approved pay points shall be Volkswagen Bus Stop, Sabo Bus Stop, and Sunny Bus Stop, while collection of money from market patronizers has been cancelled.
The government equally abolished parking of vehicles along roads within the market.
Recall that last week, traders at the market resisted some suspected area boys who allegedly came to extort money from them, which led to fracas where many were injured and properties destroyed.
