Justice Murtala’s judgment puts the tussle over the rightful candidate between Machina and Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to rest.

365Daily – A Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, has declared Bashir Machina as the rightfully elected candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for 2023 Yobe North Senatorial District election.
The presiding judge, Justice Fadimatu Murtala, pronounced the ruling on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
Justice Murtala’s judgment puts the tussle over the rightful candidate between Machina and Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to rest.
Sen. Lawan, who has represented Yobe North in the Red chamber for 23 consecutive years, did not contest for the ticket won at the primary which held on June 9, 2022, while Machina did and won.
The Senate President was one of the contenders for the APC’s presidential ticket who lost to former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu.
Following his loss, he indicated interest in the senatorial ticket but Machina insisted that he won’t step down despite spirited efforts to compel him.
