LP zones deputy governorship slot to Enugu West

We have consulted widely and we have taken our own decision to zone the deputy governorship slot to Enugu West

The Labour Party in Enugu State has zoned the Deputy Governorship slot for the 2023 General Elections to Enugu West Senatorial District.

The party took the decision during its State Working Committee (SWC) meeting on Thursday in Enugu.

Addressing the committee members, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Casmir Agbo, said that the decision to zone the slot to Enugu West was based on the current political reality in the state.

Agbo said: “The current political arrangement in the state is a PDP affair.

“In Labour Party, we have our own ideology and considerations.

“We have consulted widely and we have taken our own decision to zone the deputy governorship slot to Enugu West.”

Agbo further said that of the five local government areas (LGAs) that make up the district, Udi produced former Gov. Sullivan Chime, while the present deputy governor is from Ezeagu.

“We, therefore, propose for our deputy governorship candidate to come from “Greater Awgu”, comprising Aninri, Awgu and Oji River Local Government Areas,” he said.

Also, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Mr Ben Asogwa, said that the choice of Enugu West would help to ensure equity, justice and fairness.

According to Asogwa, it is fair and equitable for the deputy governorship position to go to Enugu West, since the Governorship Candidate, Mr Chijioke Edeoga, hails from Enugu East. (NAN)
