365Daily – All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has won ruling party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu meet the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of Labour Party, among others, in the February 25, 2022 presidential election.
He defeated his closest rivals, former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who emerged second and third respectively by a very wide margin to emerge the flag bearer of the party at the Special National Convention of the party in Abuja on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
The ex-Lagos State Governor polled over 1,271 votes, while Amaechi polled 316 votes and Osinbajo, 235 votes.
Other contenders are ex-Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; Pastor Tunde Bakare; Mr Ahmed Rufai, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Mr Jack Rich, Governor Ben Ayade, Governor David Umahi, Senator Ahmed Yarima, Dr Ahmed Lawan, Osinbajo, Amaechi, Governor Yahaya Bello and Mr Ogbonnaya Onu.
Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Robert Boroffice, Ken Nnamani, Ibikunle Amosun, Dimeji Bankole, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi,Godswill Akpabio and Mrs Uju Ken-Ohanenye had earlier stepped down for Tinubu.
They urged their supporters to support Tinubu with their votes.
Similarly, Pastor Felix Nicholas, a pastor based in United States of America, stepped down for Vice-president Osinbajo and and asked his supporters to vote for him.
365Daily had earlier reported that Nwajiuba, was absent at the convention, saying he thought the ticket was going to be conceded to the Southeast and lamenting the use of money to influence votes of the delegates.
Earlier at the convention, President Muhammadu Buhari had urged delegates to choose a formidable candidate for the party, while urging whoever emerges winner to be magnanimous in victory.
On his part, the Chairman of the Party, who days ago attempted to impose Senate President Ahmad Lawan as candidate of the party, called for unity, saying that the fate of the party depends what happens at the convention.
He added: “We cannot go into the general election next year without putting our house together.”
