365Daily- A suspended priest in the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, Hyacinth Alia, has beat former Attorney General of the Federation, Mike Aondoakaa and ex-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barnabas Gemade, to clinch the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state.
365Daily reported that Alia was suspended temporarily by the Catholic church after his declaration to run for the governorship seat of the state. This is in line with the canon laws of the Catholic church.
Alia won after polling 7,000 votes at the direct primary election that was held on Friday, May 27, 2022. All members of the Party get to vote for the preferred candidates in direct primaries.
A breakdown of the results from local government areas showed that Gemade and Aondoakaa failed to get a single vote in many of them.
