365Daily – Former Vice President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is set to meet with past PDP deputy governors in a location in Abuja, 365Daily has learnt.
The meeting, which would be in furtherance of Atiku’s nationwide consultations with different blocks, groups and interests within and outside the PDP, over his 2023 presidential ambition, 365Daily gathered would hold today (Monday March 14, 2022).
The former Vice President is expected to formally inform the former deputy governors of his 2023 presidential interest and why he would be presenting himself as a probable candidate for PDP for the top job again.
Atiku contested against the sitting President, Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and lost.
But since 2019, a lot has changed in the Nigeria’s polity, key among such dynamics is the issue of presidency going to the southern part of the nation.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has zoned presidential position to the South and chairmanship of the party to the North.
There have been serious agitation from the South for the PDP to do the same, but the party has remained ambiguous in this regard, leading to tension and internal bickering within the party.
There have also been noticable sentiments against Atiku’s ambition within PDP from both some southern and northern interests, in the past months, on account of his age and the fact that he had represented the party in the past without success, and should therefore, give chance to others to take a shot at it as well.
Those delicate political and South/North dichotomy issues that bother on inclusion, equity and propriety, 365daily gathered, would form part of the subject of discourse when Atiku meets with the politicians.
