APC Chairmanship: Al-Makura assures level-playing ground for all

An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the post of National Chairman, Sen. Umaru Al-Makura, has pledged to provide a level-playing ground for all members of the party if he emerges winner.

Al-Makura, who is representing Nasarawa South in the National Assembly, made the promise when he received leaders of the Coalition of Support Groups for Senator Al-Makura, led by Mr Felix Kurogha and Mr Michael Etim in his office on Saturday in Abuja.

The former two-term governor of Nasarawa State also promised to run an all-inclusive administration in the party with a view to deepening internal party democracy in the nation’s rulling party.

“If I emerge the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), I will be Chairman for all members of the party, irrespective of their background.

“I have been a student and mainstream politician all my life, that is why I do not align with any group.

“I will bring to bear different sectoral affairs of the party for equity to reign for the growth and development of the party and the country respectively,” he said.

The lawmaker appreciated the presentation of brooms to him by different groups, which is symbolic towards sweeping the votes within the party.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Kurogha, said that they paid the visit as a solidarity to his quest to lead the party, given his experience and pedigree as an educationist, politician, entrepreneur and a nationalist.

Similarly, the Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), declared support to the APC Chairmanship aspirations of Al-Makura and pledged to work assiduously towards his emergence.

The Chairman of the group, Mr Ali Barakat, made the disclosure when he led a delegation from across the country to show support for the aspiration of Al-Makura to be the chairman of the APC.

Ali said “we have been in the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) together before the merger that led to the creation of APC.

“BYO supported President Muhammadu Buhari to victory. He gave me his consent in writing to register the group with Corporate Affairs Commission, we are still supporting him, and we will support your aspiration towards becoming the next chairman of the ruling APC.

Responding, Al-Makura said “if I emerge as the chairman of the party, I will ensure that we continue to sustain the ideals of our leader and President.” (NAN)
