Encourage good citizens for police recruitment, PSC urges Nigerians

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has urged Nigerians to encourage responsible and upright people to join the Force.
Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (retired), a Commissioner in the Commission, made the call
at the North-East Community Engagement Forum on police recruitment, on Tuesday in Yola.
Ogunbiyi said the society has a vital role to play in ensuring enlistment of people with good morals into the force.
“The society must encourage responsible and upright citizens to apply for police recruitment.
 “If our responsible and upright young ones are discouraged from joining the police, where are we going to source for the police officers of our dream?
“Police and policing are a noble act and deserve the best of the society to join so as to change the narratives on the issue of internal security of our nation,” she said.
Ogunbiyi urged the people to raise alarm if they noticed people of questionable character applied to join the police.
She said the forum was designed to create awareness on police recruitment exercise.
In his remarks, Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, lauded the initiative, saying it would mobilise participation in the exercise.
Fintiri, represented by Amos Edga, Head of Civil Service in the state, said that there would be no meaningful development without peace.
Also speaking, Mohammed Barde, Commissioner of Police in the state, urged the Commission to engage community and religious leaders as well as Divisional Police Officers in the recruitment exercise.
He said that the measure was imperative towards ensuring recruitment of good people into the force. (NAN)
