365Daily – Former Anambra State Governor and vice presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Peter Obi, has reiterated his call for improved investment in education as panacea for poverty, insecurity and other societal ills in Nigeria.
He reemphasised his position in his message to mark the 2022 International Day of Education.
Obi explained that he has always believed, preached, practised and advised the government to see their financial commitments in the education sector as investments and not expenses, saying that the more government invests in education, the better the economic growth and development the society enjoys.
The ex-governor noted that with investment in education, issues of insecurity and poverty will be greatly reduced, adding that education is the most important tool for the socio-economic, political, scientific and technological advancement of any society, as well as a tool for poverty eradication and human development.
He observed that most of the ills being experienced in Nigeria are as a result of past and present non-attention to education and urged government at all levels to always prioritise educational investment.
In his remarks to Nigerian students, Obi advised them to always take their education seriously as it remains the only capital they need and will lead them to greater heights in life.
